David Franklin Lawrence

Born in 1958 in Leeds, Alabama, David received Jesus as Lord
and Savior at ten years of age. He was called to preach at 16
and ordained to preach in 1983 by First Baptist Church,
Leeds.  David and his wife, Karen, (nee Monk) have three
grown sons – Jonathan, Jared, Joel.

He is a graduate of the University of Mobile (AL), BA, 1980; and
Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary (Memphis, TN),
Master of Divinity 1983.

He served churches as pastor or associate pastor in
Tennessee and Alabama prior to coming to Lucy Baptist
Church in July 2005.  Having a heart for missions, he loves to
lead those he serves to participate in missions.  He has led or
participated in international mission trips to Russia, Brazil,
Mexico, Israel and Peru and has also participated in numerous
mission trips in the US.

Pastor David loves to preach the word of God which he
generally does “book by book and verse by verse.”  He
believes that this is the most effective way to equip people for
the challenges of daily living.  He not only believes that
Scripture is without error, but that it is also sufficient to guide us
through every issue that we face at every stage in life.  (2
Timothy 3:16-17)

One of his greatest joys is sharing the good news of Jesus with
people who do not know Him and pointing them to an eternal
relationship with Him.

His life verse is Galatians 2:20 which says, I have been
crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in
me; and the life which I now live, I live by faith in the Son of God
who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Pastor David believes that a church is a home for God’s
children.  His vision for Lucy Baptist Church is to be a family of
faith where people of all ages, races, social, or economic
backgrounds can find common ground in the grace, love,
acceptance, and forgiveness of Jesus Christ, then grow in their
relationship with one another and together reach out to serve
and reach our world.
